Chassis Number Check in the UAE: Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Chinese Imports
In the UAE, the chassis number is the key to every official vehicle check. But local records only cover what happened inside the country. Here is how to check a car by chassis number in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and the other emirates — and how to check a Chinese car's history from before it arrived.

Where to find the chassis number
The chassis number is printed on the vehicle registration card (mulkiya), stamped on the body, and usually shown on a small plate at the base of the windscreen on the driver's side and on the driver-side door pillar. It has 17 characters and is the same as the VIN. Make sure it matches in all of these places before anything else.
How to check a chassis number in the UAE
The Ministry of Interior (moi.gov.ae) offers a vehicle accident enquiry by chassis number through its website and app. The Emirates Vehicle Gate (evg.ae) and Abu Dhabi Police (adpolice.gov.ae) offer similar enquiries, and some services require a UAE Pass login. Service names and requirements change, so always check the official website of each authority.
Chassis number check in Dubai (RTA)
In Dubai, the Roads and Transport Authority (rta.ae) issues the vehicle technical condition certificate, which needs the owner's consent. Combine it with the MOI accident enquiry to see what has been recorded about the car in the UAE.
What UAE records don't show
UAE records show accidents registered inside the country. A used car imported from China may have a history from before it arrived — a major accident, a total loss or a mileage rollback. That history is tied to the chassis number in China and does not appear in the local enquiry.
Checking a Chinese car's history before it reached the UAE
If the chassis number starts with L, the car was built in China. Enter it in the free check to confirm the brand, model and year, then open the Standard report for the accident count, damaged areas, title and ownership history, or the Premium report for insurance claims, mileage and maintenance records in China. Jetour, Changan, Geely, BYD, Haval and MG are all common on the UAE used market.
Not an official government service
ChineseVIN is an independent service and is not affiliated with the MOI, RTA, EVG, Abu Dhabi Police or any UAE government authority. For local accident and registration records, use the official services above.
